Vodafone planning to exit India operations

  • Telecom circles are abuzz with rumours that British telecom giant Vodafone along with its joint holding venture Vodafone-Idea has been planning to exit India owing to mounting losses.
  • The telecom giant has failed to get extension for paying its lenders due to reduced number of subscribers.
  • The plans to get new loans have also failed to generate confidence in its stakeholders leading to fall in its share prices.

Cyclone ‘Maha'

  • A deep depression in the Arabian Sea intensified into a ‘very severe cyclonic storm’ called ‘Maha’.
  • It is likely to weaken into a ‘cyclonic storm’ in the next 12 hours.
  • The IMD has predicted the storm would move over Lakshadweep Islands before emerging into the east central Arabian Sea.
  • The storm is expected to bring heavy rains in Lakshadweep Islands, Kerala, Karnataka and Goa coast before loosing it’s intensity.

CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta passes away

  • Former Lok Sabha MP and Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta passed away in Kolkata. He was 83.
  • Dasgupta was the CPI's former deputy general secretary and a well-known trade unionist.
  • He also became the elected member of the National Secretariat, Communist Party of India, in 2004.

Malware infects Kudankulam nuclear power plant

  • The Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) has confirmed the presence of malware in its system at the Kudankulam nuclear plant.
  • The authorities have confirmed the detection of malware in the system but have said that it is not connected to the main plant.
  • Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plantis the single largest nuclear power station in India, situated in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. It is built with assistance from Russian state company Atomstroyexport.

G.C. Murmu and R.K. Mathur sworn in as Lt.Governors

  • Mr Murmu is the current expenditure secretary in union Ministry of Finance, belonging to 1985 batchof Gujarat cadre and Mr Mathur is the ex- Chief Information Officer belonging to 1977- batch ofTripura cadre.
