Japan Beats china un FIBA women’s Asia cup final

Asteroid named after Pandit Jasraj

  • The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has named an asteroid, discovered in 2006, after Indian classical singer Pandit Jasraj.
  • The asteroid, or more formally known as a minor planet, is located between Mars and Jupiter, and was discovered on November 11, 2006, by the Catalina Sky Survey.
  • The privilege of naming a planet is first given to discoverers, who have 10 years to propose a name.

Kerala tops School Education Quality index

  • The NITI Ayog has released the School Education Quality index in which Kerala was the best performer with a score of 76.6%, while Uttar Pradesh came in last with a score of 36.4%.
  • Haryana, Assam and Uttar Pradesh showed the most improvement in their performance in 2016-17, in comparison to the base year of 2015-16.
  • The School Education Quality Index assesses States on the basis of learning outcomes, access, equity and infrastructure and facilities, using survey data, self-reported data from States and third-party verification.

Pakistan to invite Dr Manmohan Singh to inaugurate Kartarpur corridor

  • Pakistan is planning to invite former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh for the inauguration of the Kartarpur corridor according to their foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
  • The Kartarpur corridor will connect Darbar Sahib with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district of Punjab and facilitate visa-free movement of Indian pilgrims, who will only have to obtain a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib.

Veteran actor Viju Khote passes away

  • The actor was most famous for playing the dacoit Kalia in Sholay and Robert in Andaz Apna Apna.
  • Apart from that Khote featured in popular films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Ventilator and the TV show Zabaan Sambhalke.
