General Elections - 2019

  • Schedule of Elections Election Commission of India today announced the schedule for 2019 General Elections to Lok Sabha and to State Legislative Assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim.

Ministry of Defence

  • Twin Success for Guided PINAKA Defence Research and Defence Organisation (DRDO) today successfully test fired the Guided PINAKA from Pokhran ranges.
  • The weapon system is equipped with state-of-the-art guidance kit comprising of an advanced navigation and control system.
  • In both the missions, the weapon systems impacted the intended targets with high precision and achieved desired accuracies.
  • Telemetry Systems tracked and monitored the vehicle all through the flight path. All the mission objectives have been met.
  • The indigenously developed Guided Pinaka by DRDO will significantly boost the capability of the artillery to make precision hits.

PM Modi and PM Hasina Jointly Inaugurates Development Projects

  • Development Projects Inaugurated Supply of buses & trucks. Inauguration of 36 community clinics. 11 water treatment plants. Extension of National Knowledge Network to Bangladesh.
  • National Knowledge Network (NKN) is a state-of-the-art pan-Indian resource sharing network aimed at digitally connecting all national universities, colleges and research establishments to create countrywide virtual classrooms.
  • National Knowledge Network project was initiated in 2009 for a period of 10 years. At present, the National Knowledge Network programme is a component of the umbrella “Digital India” programme.
  • NKN facilitates advanced distance education in specialized fields like engineering, science, medicine etc. as well as enable an ultra-high speed e-Governance backbone. NKN will bridge the existing knowledge gap in the country and help the country evolve as a Knowledge Society and also spur economic activities in the Knowledge domain. As part of its confidence-building measures, India had extended the NKN project to six South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member states Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka, leaving out Pakistan.

  • PM attends 50th Raising Day celebrations of CISF at Indirapuram in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Addressing the CISF personnel, the Prime Minister congratulated the forces for its Golden Jubilee. He praised the role of CISF in safeguarding and protecting the vital institutions of the country. He added that the responsibility of safeguarding the modern infrastructure built for New India is in the safe hands of CISF.
  • To create awareness amongst the general public regarding the role and functions of CISF, Prime Minister suggested the idea of starting digital museums at airports and metros, showcasing the work of CISF.
  • Hailing the role of CISF in securing the critical infrastructure of the country, Prime Minister said that the force is also involved in disaster response, ensuring safety of women and many other activities. In this context, Prime Minister spoke about the disaster relief operations of CISF during Kerala floods and also during Nepal and Haiti earthquake
  • The Prime Minister said that the National Police Memorial is a dedication to the valour and sacrifices made by the police and paramilitary forces. He said the monuments like National War Memorial and National Police Memorial will create awareness amongst the citizens regarding the contributions of security forces. He hailed the efforts of CISF in inducting many women soldiers into its force
  • The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) refers to uniform nomenclature of seven security forces in India under the authority of Ministry of Home Affairs. They are the

  • The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has released the Trends in International Arms Transfers 2018 Report. The Key observations made in the report include:
  • Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is an international institute based in Sweden, dedicated to research into conflict, armaments, arms control and disarmament. Established in 1966, SIPRI provides data, analysis and recommendations, based on open sources, to policymakers, researchers, media and the interested public. SIPRI is based in Stockholm.
  • SIPRI was ranked among the top three non-US world-wide think tanks in 2014 by the University of Pennsylvania Lauder Institute's Global Go To Think Tanks Report. In 2016 it ranked SIPRI in the top twenty eight among think tanks globally.
