Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Professor Balram Bhargava has jointly won prestigious Dr Lee Jong-wook Memorial Prize for Public Health-2019. He was awarded for his achievements as a clinician, innovator, researcher and trainer. He was presented award at the 72nd World Health Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dr LEE Jong-wook Memorial Prize for Public Health
- It is awarded annually to individuals, institutions, and governmental or nongovernmental organizations who have made an outstanding contribution to public health. It aims at rewarding work that has extended far beyond call of normal duties.
- It was established in 2008. It is named after Dr LEE Jong-wook, a Korean public health doctor and former director-general of World Health Organization
- It consists of a plaque from the Founder and a sum of money which will not exceed US$ 100 000. It is presented at special ceremony during the World Health Assembly (WHA).
