PM Narendra Modi is on a visit to UAE and Bahrain on his 2nd leg of tour of France and Gulf nations.
UAE and Bahrain are two major countries of the middle east and are major trade and investment partners in India.
Both UAE and Bahrain are vocal supporters of India for UNSC permanent membership and are in favour of India in Kashmir issue. They have great influence in groupings like GCC and OIC.
Highlights of visit
PM Modi,will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Bahrain, and will meet Prince Khalifa to discuss bilateral issues after the delegation-level talks.
Bahrain will exchange MoUs in the areas of culture, space and collaboration with International Solar Alliance.
PM Modi will also launch RuPay card in Bahrain. Bahrain will be the 4th country in the world to have usage of India developed RuPay card.
PM Modi will also be receiving The Order of Zayed, the highest civilian award of the UAE.
Importance of visit
India has been thankful to UAE for its position on the Kashmir issue following abrogation of Article 370. UAE is a founding member of OIC and has great influence over Muslim world.
The support of UAE is vey useful to counter Pakistan on international forum. The UAE is India's third-largest trade partner. Bilateral investments and an annual bilateral trade of about USD 60 billion takes place between the two.
The Kingdom of Bahrain along with its GCC partners are amongst the world's most prominent supporters of India's candidacy for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
