Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted flight test of 'Abhyas', a high-speed expendable aerial target (HEAT). The flight test was conducted at Interim Test Range, Chandipur (Balasore) in Odisha. During the test, it was tracked by various radars and electro-optic systems. - It is drone designed for autonomous flying with help of an autopilot. It offers a realistic threat scenario for practice of weapon systems.
- Its configuration is designed on an in-line small gas turbine engine. It uses indigenously developed micro-electro-mechanical systems-based system (MEMS) for navigation and guidance.
- It also has an acoustic miss distance indicator (AMDI) to indicate the missed distance. It is also fitted with Luneburg lens in the nose cone which improves the radar cross-section of the target for weapons practice.
