Issue

Paleontologists have identified a new species of flying dinosauras, named it Cryodrakon boreas, and declared that it could be one of the largest flying animals.

Background

Scientists had uncovered remains of a flying reptile some time ago.The remains included a skeleton consisting of parts of the wings, legs, neck and a rib.

Details

  • The reptile lived over 77 million years ago in what is western Canada today. Its remains were discovered 30 years ago from the Dinosaur Park Formation located in Alberta.

  •  The paleontologists had assumed that it belonged to an already known species of pterosaur called Quetzalcoatlus.

  • The new study by researchers has concluded that the remains belong to a new species, which is also the first pterosaur to be discovered in Canada.

  • Despite their large size and wide distribution  across North and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe , only little  remains of Pterosaurs have been unearthed, making the new find especially important.
