Regulations for imports
Under Electronics and IT Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) order 2012, imports of electronic and IT goods (new as well as second hand, whether or not refurbished, repaired or re-conditioned) is allowed through registration with the BIS or on specific exemption letter from Union Ministry of IT and Electronics (MeitY).
In-case of non-compliance: Without the registration and compliance with BIS labelling requirements, imported electronic and IT goods will be re-exported by importer, otherwise customs authorities will deform those products and dispose of them as scrap.
Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT)
It is nodal government agency responsible for execution of the import and export Policies of India. It is attached office of Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It is headquartered in New Delhi. It is entrusted with responsibilities for formulating and implementing foreign trade policy with the main objective of promoting India’s exports.
