A new research has found that the viral load of patients infected with Covid-19 can be used to estimate levels of infectiousness.
The study made use of PCR samples collected from patients infected with the disease. It has been able to determine disease severity.
The researchers tried to identify differences in collected data that includes disease severity, age group and virus variants etc.
The collected data was analysed to identify the links between different types of tests and their effects on disease severity.
The SARS CoV-2 viral load of positive patients between the age group of 20 and 65 did not vary much. There was an average of 2.5 million copies of virus genome.
Young children within the age group of 0 to 5 years were found to contain the lowest viral load among all analysed positive patients. Adolescents and older children had viral loads much similar to adults.
The levels of infectivity in the age group of 0 to 5 years were to be only 80 percent of the infectivity found in adults.
